Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: multimeter, jumper cables, wrench set, wire brush, safety goggles, and gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is in a safe area with adequate ventilation.
  • Disconnect the vehicle's negative terminal to prevent any electrical shorts.
2. Clean Battery Terminals
  • Remove the battery terminals, starting with the negative terminal followed by the positive.
  • Inspect the terminals and cables for corrosion. If corrosion is present, use a wire brush to clean the terminals thoroughly.
  • Reattach the terminals securely, starting with the positive terminal followed by the negative.
3. Jump-Start the Vehicle
  • Position another vehicle close enough to connect jumper cables without the vehicles touching.
  • Connect the positive cable from the working battery to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
  • Connect the negative cable from the working battery to a solid ground on the dead vehicle (not the battery).
  • Start the working vehicle and allow it to run for a few minutes before attempting to start the Volvo XC60.
4. Replace the Battery (if necessary)
  • If the jump-start is successful, turn off both vehicles and remove the jumper cables in reverse order.
  • If the battery is still dead, remove the old battery using a wrench to loosen the hold-down clamp and disconnect the terminals.
  • Install a new battery, ensuring the positive and negative terminals are connected correctly.
  • Secure the battery with the hold-down clamp and ensure it is tightly fastened.
