Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the job.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent accidental engagement of the brake system.

Tools Required:

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Lug wrench
  • Socket set
  • Brake caliper tool (or C-clamp)
  • Torque wrench
  • Brake cleaner
  • Gloves and safety glasses
2. Remove Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  2. Use the jack to lift the vehicle and place jack stands for safety.
  3. Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove Brake Caliper
  1. Locate the caliper mounting bolts on the back of the caliper.
  2. Use a socket to remove the caliper mounting bolts.
  3. Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and support it with a bungee cord or wire to avoid straining the brake line.
4. Replace Brake Pads
  1. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  2. If present, remove the retaining clips or pins and install new clips if necessary.
  3. Apply a thin layer of brake grease to the back of the new pads to prevent squeaking.
  4. Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
5. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  1. Use the brake caliper tool to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing.
  2. Position the caliper over the new pads and align it with the mounting holes.
  3. Reinstall the caliper mounting bolts and tighten them to manufacturer specifications (typically around 25-30 Nm).
6. Reinstall Wheel
  1. Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  3. Once the vehicle is on the ground, use the torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 120 Nm).
7. Final Checks
  1. Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the caliper pistons are seated against the new pads.
  2. Check brake fluid level in the master cylinder and top off if necessary.
