Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials: socket set, brake cleaner, new brake pads, new rotors (if needed), torque wrench, and safety glasses.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
2. Lift Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the rear of the vehicle.
  • Secure with jack stands for safety.
3. Remove Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the rear wheel.
4. Remove Brake Components
  • Brake Caliper Removal:
    • Use a socket to unbolt the caliper from its bracket.
    • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and support it using a bungee cord (do not let it hang by the brake line).
  • Brake Pad Removal:
    • Remove the retaining clips and slide the old brake pads out of the caliper bracket.
5. Inspect and Replace
  • Inspect Components:
    • Check the brake rotor for scoring or excessive wear.
    • Clean the rotor with brake cleaner (replace if necessary).
  • Install New Brake Pads:
    • Apply anti-squeal lubricant to the back of the new pads.
    • Slide the new pads into the caliper bracket.
6. Reassemble Brake Components
  • Reattach Caliper:
    • Slide the caliper back over the new pads and rotor.
    • Bolt the caliper in place with the socket.
  • Reinstall Wheel:
    • Place the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
7. Lower Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically 80-100 ft-lbs).
