Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Ratchet
    • 3/8" drive breaker bar
    • Serpentine belt tool (optional)
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning work.
    • Ensure the engine is cool to avoid burns.
2. Remove the Old Serpentine Belt
  • Step 1: Locate the serpentine belt tensioner, typically located near the front of the engine.
  • Step 2: Using the serpentine belt tool or a breaker bar, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise to relieve tension on the belt.
  • Step 3: While holding the tensioner, slide the belt off one of the pulleys. Slowly release the tensioner back to its resting position.
  • Step 4: Carefully remove the belt from the remaining pulleys, noting the routing of the belt for installation of the new one.
3. Install the New Serpentine Belt
  • Step 1: Refer to the belt routing diagram typically found on the underside of the hood or in the owner’s manual.
  • Step 2: Begin threading the new belt around the pulleys according to the routing diagram, ensuring it sits properly in the grooves.
  • Step 3: Once most of the belt is in place, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise again and slip the belt over the last pulley.
  • Step 4: Release the tensioner slowly and ensure the belt is correctly seated on all pulleys.
4. Final Checks
  • Step 1: Visually inspect the belt to ensure proper routing and seating.
  • Step 2: Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Step 3: Start the engine and observe the belt for any unusual noises or misalignment.
