Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, impact wrench, and safety goggles.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which strut is being replaced.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure stability.
3. Remove Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel, exposing the strut assembly.
4. Disconnect Strut Assembly
  • Remove the bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle using an impact wrench.
  • Disconnect any brake lines or sensors attached to the strut assembly.
  • Remove the top strut mounting bolts located under the hood (you may need to remove the engine cover).
5. Remove the Strut
  • Carefully pull the strut out of the suspension. If it does not come free easily, check for any remaining connections.
  • Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the spring on the strut if reusing the old spring.
6. Install New Strut
  • If using the old spring, carefully install it onto the new strut using the spring compressor.
  • Position the new strut in the suspension and secure it in place by tightening the top strut mounting bolts and securing the bottom bolts to the steering knuckle.
7. Reassemble Vehicle
  • Reconnect brake lines or sensors if removed.
  • Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and remove the jack.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 80-100 lb-ft for most vehicles).
8. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery and ensure all connections are secure.
  • Test the strut by pushing down on the vehicle and observing the rebound.
