Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.

Tools Required:

  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Brake pad spreader or C-clamp
  • Brake cleaner
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen lug nuts slightly while the wheel is still on the ground.
  • Use the jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect and Remove Brake Components
  • Inspect the brake caliper and rotor for damage.
  • If caliper is sticking, remove the caliper by unscrewing the mounting bolts and carefully hanging it without straining the brake line.
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
4. Replace Brake Pads
  • Clean the caliper bracket and rotor with brake cleaner.
  • Use the brake pad spreader or C-clamp to compress the caliper piston to make room for new pads.
  • Install new brake pads in the caliper bracket, ensuring they are oriented correctly.
5. Reassemble
  • Reattach the brake caliper over the new pads and torque the caliper bolts to manufacturer specifications (usually around 20-30 ft-lbs).
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the specified value (typically 80-100 ft-lbs).
