Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials: an oil catch pan, socket set, wrenches, new gaskets, oil filter, and engine oil.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Change Oil Filter
  • Remove the old oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
  • Lubricate the rubber O-ring on the new oil filter with a small amount of oil.
  • Install the new oil filter, tightening it by hand until snug, then an additional 3/4 turn.
3. Replace Drain Plug and Oil
  • Place an oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the drain plug using a socket wrench and allow the old oil to drain completely.
  • Clean the drain plug and replace the washer if necessary, then reinstall and torque to the manufacturer’s specification (usually around 20 Nm).
  • Refill the engine with the appropriate type and amount of oil as per the owner’s manual (typically 5W-30).
4. Replace Gaskets
  • If the valve cover gasket is leaking, remove the valve cover by loosening the bolts in a crisscross pattern.
  • Carefully lift the valve cover off and remove the old gasket material.
  • Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly and install a new gasket.
  • Reinstall the valve cover and torque the bolts to the recommended specification (usually around 10 Nm).
5. Test for Leaks
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
  • Inspect the areas where work was performed for any signs of oil leakage.
  • If no leaks are detected, proceed to dispose of the old oil and filter properly.
