Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Check and Top Off Engine Oil
  • Tools Required: Oil dipstick, funnel, and correct type of engine oil.
  • Remove the dipstick and clean it with a rag.
  • Insert the dipstick back and remove it to check the oil level.
  • If low, add the appropriate engine oil until the correct level is reached.
  • Recheck and ensure the oil level is within the marked range.
3. Change Engine Oil and Filter
  • Tools Required: Oil catch pan, socket set, wrench, new oil filter, and new engine oil.
  • Raise the vehicle using jack stands for access.
  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the oil drain plug and allow oil to drain completely.
  • Replace the oil filter using an oil filter wrench; lubricate the rubber O-ring on the new filter before installation.
  • Reinstall the drain plug and torque to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Refill the engine with the correct type and amount of oil.
4. Replace the Oil Pressure Sending Unit
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, and possibly a new sending unit.
  • Locate the oil pressure sending unit (usually near the oil filter).
  • Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the sending unit using a socket.
  • Install the new sending unit and reconnect the electrical connector.
  • Ensure it is properly seated to prevent leaks.
5. Test Oil Pressure
  • Tools Required: Manual oil pressure gauge.
  • Locate the oil pressure sensor port, usually near the sending unit.
  • Remove the sending unit and install the manual gauge.
  • Start the engine and observe the oil pressure readings; compare them to manufacturer specifications.
  • If readings are still low, the oil pump may need inspection or replacement.
