Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdriver set, OBD-II scanner, vacuum cleaner, cleaning solution (mild detergent).
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
2. Replace Cabin Air Filter
  1. Locate the cabin air filter housing, usually behind the glove compartment.
  2. Remove the screws or clips holding the glove compartment in place and gently pull it down.
  3. Remove the old cabin air filter and inspect for mold or dirt.
  4. Clean the filter housing with a vacuum and a damp cloth.
  5. Install a new cabin air filter, ensuring it is oriented correctly.
3. Clean HVAC System
  1. Use a cleaning solution mixed with water to wipe down the HVAC vent openings.
  2. Spray the cleaning solution into the intake vents located at the base of the windshield.
  3. Turn on the A/C to help circulate the cleaning solution through the system.
  4. Allow the system to run for 10-15 minutes to dry and eliminate odors.
4. Inspect and Clear Drain Hoses
  1. Locate the drain hose(s) from the HVAC system.
  2. Inspect for blockages or kinks and clear any obstructions using compressed air or a flexible rod.
  3. Ensure that the hoses are directing water away from the vehicle.
5. Check Heater Core
  1. Inspect the heater core for any visible leaks or signs of coolant pooling.
  2. If leaks are present, the heater core will need to be replaced following the manufacturer’s specifications.
