Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Wrench set
    • Brake line wrench
    • Brake fluid
    • Clean rags
    • Container for old brake fluid
  • Ensure the vehicle is securely lifted and supported on jack stands.
  • Disconnect the battery (negative terminal) to avoid any electrical issues.
2. Remove the Old Master Cylinder
  1. Disconnect Brake Lines:

    • Use a brake line wrench to carefully loosen and remove the brake lines connected to the master cylinder. Place a container under the lines to catch any leaking fluid.
  2. Remove Electrical Connector:

    • If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector from the master cylinder.
  3. Unbolt the Master Cylinder:

    • Remove the mounting bolts securing the master cylinder to the brake booster using a socket wrench. Carefully pull the master cylinder away from the brake booster.
3. Install the New Master Cylinder
  1. Position the New Master Cylinder:

    • Align the new master cylinder with the mounting holes on the brake booster and press it into place.
  2. Bolt Down the Master Cylinder:

    • Secure the master cylinder with the mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (generally around 15-20 ft-lbs).
  3. Reconnect Brake Lines:

    • Reattach the brake lines to the master cylinder, ensuring they are tightened securely but not overtightened to prevent damage.
  4. Reconnect Electrical Connector:

    • If applicable, reconnect the electrical connector to the master cylinder.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  1. Fill the Brake Fluid Reservoir:

    • Fill the reservoir with new brake fluid to the recommended level.
  2. Bleed the Brakes:

    • Start at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the passenger rear). Use the two-person method or a brake bleeder kit to bleed each brake line until clear fluid with no bubbles runs out.
    • Repeat for all wheels in the proper order: passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, driver front.
5. Final Checks
  • Recheck the brake fluid level and add more if necessary.
  • Reconnect the battery.
