Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, wheel chocks, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, compressed air, and safety glasses.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Raise Vehicle
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels slightly.
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and support it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels to access the brake components.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Inspect Brake Pads:

    • Remove the caliper bolts using a socket wrench.
    • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor and support it with a bungee cord or similar device (do not let it hang by the brake line).
    • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Replace Brake Pads:

    • Compare new pads with old to ensure they match.
    • Apply brake lubricant on the back of the new pads to minimize noise.
    • Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
    • Reinstall the caliper over the new pads and tighten the caliper bolts to the manufacturer's torque specification (typically around 25 Nm or 18 lb-ft).
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors (if necessary)
  • If rotors are scored or worn beyond specifications, remove them:
    • Remove the caliper bracket (if applicable) using a socket.
    • Slide the rotor off the hub.
  • Install new rotors:
    • Clean the new rotor with brake cleaner to remove any protective coating.
    • Slide the new rotor onto the hub and secure it.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the caliper bracket and ensure all bolts are tightened.
  • Reinstall the wheels and tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 120 Nm or 89 lb-ft).
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  • Reconnect the battery.
