Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Oil filter wrench
    • Oil catch pan
    • Funnel
    • Rags or paper towels
    • Safety goggles and gloves
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is turned off for safety.
  • Allow the engine to cool down if it has been running hot.
2. Drain Old Oil
  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the oil drain plug using the appropriate socket (usually a 19mm).
  • Allow the old oil to fully drain into the catch pan.
  • Clean the drain plug with a rag and inspect the washer for wear; replace if necessary.
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the old oil filter.
  • Remove the filter and allow any remaining oil to drain into the catch pan.
  • Apply a thin layer of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand; tighten it according to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually about ¾ turn after the gasket comes into contact).
4. Add New Oil
  • Reinstall the oil drain plug and torque it to the manufacturer’s specification (typically around 20 Nm).
  • Using a funnel, pour the new engine oil into the engine through the oil filler cap. The Volkswagen Golf MK6 typically requires approximately 5.5 liters of synthetic oil (check the owner’s manual for exact specifications).
  • Replace the oil filler cap securely.
5. Check Oil Level
  • Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. This allows the new oil to circulate and fill the oil filter.
  • Turn off the engine and wait a minute for the oil to settle.
  • Use the dipstick to check the oil level; add more oil if necessary to reach the proper level.
