Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts:
    • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, brake cleaner, C-clamp, torque wrench, and a brake pad spreader tool.
    • Safety gear: Gloves and safety glasses.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  2. Use a jack to lift the vehicle and then secure it with jack stands.
  3. Remove the front wheels completely.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Components

A. Remove Brake Caliper

  1. Locate the caliper mounting bolts and remove them using the socket set.
  2. Carefully lift the caliper off the rotor and support it with a bungee cord or strap to avoid hanging by the brake line.

B. Remove Brake Pads

  1. Slide the old brake pads out of the caliper bracket.
  2. Inspect the pads for wear and replace if they are less than 3mm thick.

C. Inspect and Replace Rotors

  1. Remove the caliper bracket if necessary (usually requires additional bolts).
  2. Remove the rotor by pulling it directly off the wheel hub. If it is stuck, gently tap it with a rubber mallet.
  3. Inspect the rotor for damage. If warped or deeply scored, replace with a new rotor.

D. Install New Brake Pads and Rotors

  1. Clean the new rotor with brake cleaner to remove any protective coating.
  2. Install the new rotor onto the hub.
  3. Slide the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  4. If necessary, use a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper to allow for new pad thickness.

E. Reattach Brake Caliper

  1. Position the caliper back over the new pads and rotor.
  2. Reinstall the caliper mounting bolts and tighten to manufacturer specifications using a torque wrench.
4. Reassemble the Wheel
  1. Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and then fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to ensure even pressure.
5. Final Checks
  1. Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure proper pad seating and to check for brake pressure.
  2. Inspect for any leaks around the caliper or brake lines.
