Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, ratchet, extension bar, anti-seize compound, dielectric grease, compressed air (optional).
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical shorts.
  • Remove any engine covers if applicable to access the spark plugs.
2. Remove Spark Plug Wires/Coils
  • Sub-steps:
    • If using spark plug wires, gently twist and pull each wire off the spark plug to avoid damage.
    • If equipped with ignition coils, remove the screws or bolts securing each coil and pull the coil straight out. Be careful not to pull on the wire harness.
3. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    • Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to loosen and remove each spark plug by turning counterclockwise.
    • If necessary, use compressed air to clean any debris around the spark plug hole before removal to avoid contamination.
4. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    • Check the gap on the new spark plugs using a feeler gauge, adjusting if necessary to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 0.028-0.032 inches for most models).
    • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs.
    • Hand-tighten the spark plugs into the cylinder head, then use the torque wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 15-20 lb-ft).
5. Reinstall Ignition Coils/Spark Plug Wires
  • Sub-steps:
    • If using coils, insert them back into place and secure with the screws or bolts.
    • Reconnect the spark plug wires by pushing them firmly onto the new spark plugs, ensuring a snug fit.
    • Apply dielectric grease to the inside of the spark plug wire boots to enhance the connection and prevent moisture ingress.
6. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is secure.
