Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
  • Allow the vehicle to cool down if it has been running.
2. Access the Fuel Sending Unit
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Remove the rear seat or access panel to reach the fuel sending unit located in the fuel tank.
  • Disconnect the fuel pump connector and the fuel lines carefully to avoid spillage.
3. Inspect and Test the Fuel Sending Unit
  • Remove the fuel sending unit from the tank.
  • Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the fuel level sensor; it should vary as the float moves.
  • If the resistance is not within manufacturer specifications, replace the fuel sending unit.
  • Check for any physical damage or corrosion on the unit and connectors.
4. Replace the Fuel Gauge (if necessary)
  • If the fuel gauge is determined to be faulty, remove the gauge cluster from the dashboard.
  • Disconnect the wiring harness and carefully remove the gauge from the cluster.
  • Install the new fuel gauge in reverse order of removal and reconnect the wiring.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the fuel sending unit securely back into the tank.
  • Reconnect the fuel lines and the fuel pump connector.
  • Reinstall the rear seat or access panel.
  • Reconnect the vehicle battery.
