Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools including a socket set, flathead screwdriver, and lubricant.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the ignition system.
2. Remove the Ignition Switch
  • Tools Required: Torx screwdriver, socket set.
  • Locate the screws securing the ignition switch assembly.
  • Remove the screws with a Torx screwdriver and carefully pull the ignition switch out of the steering column.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from the back of the ignition switch.
3. Inspect the Lock Cylinder
  • Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the ignition switch.
  • Check for any debris or broken components within the lock cylinder.
  • If the cylinder is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
4. Lubricate the Lock Cylinder
  • Use graphite powder (not oil-based lubricants) to lubricate the lock cylinder thoroughly.
  • Insert the key into the lock cylinder and turn it several times to ensure even distribution of the lubricant.
5. Reassemble the Ignition System
  • Reconnect the ignition lock cylinder to the ignition switch.
  • Reinstall the ignition switch assembly back into the steering column.
  • Secure it with the previously removed screws.
6. Reconnect the Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the battery terminals securely.
  • Insert the key and test the ignition to ensure it functions properly.
