Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Safety warning: Allow the engine to cool down before working on the transmission.
2. Drain Old Fluid
  • Locate the transmission drain plug and place a drain pan underneath.
  • Remove the drain plug using a socket set and allow the old fluid to completely drain.
  • Clean the drain plug and inspect it for metal shavings.
3. Replace Filter (if applicable)
  • Remove the transmission pan (if the filter is internal) by loosening the bolts with a socket set.
  • Carefully drop the pan and remove the old filter; replace it with a new filter.
  • Clean the mating surface of the transmission and the pan.
4. Fill with New Fluid
  • Reinstall the transmission pan using a new gasket if necessary and torque to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reinsert the drain plug and torque it to the specified value.
  • Using a funnel, fill the transmission with the appropriate type and amount of new fluid as specified in the owner’s manual.
5. Verify Fluid Level
  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  • With the engine running, cycle through the gears and then check the transmission fluid level using the dipstick (if equipped).
  • Add fluid as necessary to reach the correct level.
