Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles.
2. Inspect and Replace Brake Fluid
  • Tools Required: Brake fluid, funnel
  • Check the master cylinder reservoir; if low, add the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 3 or DOT 4).
  • If fluid is contaminated or low, replace it:
    1. Open the master cylinder cap.
    2. Use a funnel to pour in new brake fluid until the recommended level is reached.
    3. Replace the cap securely.
3. Inspect and Repair Leaks
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, brake line repair kit
  • Visually inspect all brake lines, hoses, and connections for leaks.
  • If a leak is found:
    1. Replace damaged sections of the brake line or hose.
    2. Tighten loose connections.
    3. Ensure all fittings are sealed.
4. Bleed the Brake Lines
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, wrench, clear tubing
  • Connect clear tubing to the bleeder valve on each brake caliper.
  • Have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times, then hold it down.
  • Open the bleeder valve to allow old fluid and air to escape. Close the valve before the pedal is released.
  • Repeat this process until no air bubbles are present.
  • Ensure the brake fluid level remains sufficient during the process.
5. Inspect and Replace Master Cylinder (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, new master cylinder, brake fluid
  • If the pedal still goes to the floor after the above steps, the master cylinder may be faulty:
    1. Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder.
    2. Remove the mounting bolts and take out the master cylinder.
    3. Install the new master cylinder, ensuring proper alignment.
    4. Reconnect the brake lines and torque to manufacturer specifications.
