Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and set the parking brake.
  • Wear appropriate safety gear (gloves, goggles).
2. Raise Vehicle
  • Use a jack to raise the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheels to access the brake components.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors
  • Inspect Rotors:
    • Measure rotor thickness using a micrometer; ensure it meets manufacturer specifications.
    • Look for any visible warping or scoring.
  • Replace Rotors (if needed):
    • Remove caliper bolts with a socket set and lift the caliper off the rotor.
    • Remove the rotor by pulling it straight off the hub.
    • Clean the hub surface and install the new rotor by aligning it with the wheel hub.
    • Torque rotor retaining screws (if applicable) to manufacturer specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Inspect Pads:
    • Check the thickness of the brake pads; if they are below the recommended thickness, replace them.
  • Replace Pads (if needed):
    • Remove the caliper bracket bolts and slide the caliper off.
    • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
    • Install new brake pads into the bracket, ensuring they are properly seated.
    • Reinstall the caliper over the new pads and torque bolts to specifications.
5. Bleed Brake System
  • If air was found in the brake lines:
    • Connect a brake bleeder kit to the brake caliper valve.
    • Open the bleeder valve and have an assistant press the brake pedal until fluid flows without bubbles.
    • Close the bleeder valve and repeat for all calipers, starting from the furthest from the master cylinder.
6. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheels and lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  • Torque the wheel lug nuts to manufacturer specifications.
