Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and securely supported with jack stands.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Inspect Brake Fluid
  • Tools Required: None
  • Check the brake fluid reservoir; if low, top it off with the manufacturer-recommended brake fluid (DOT 3 or DOT 4).
  • If fluid is contaminated (dark or murky), proceed to replace it.
3. Bleed the Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, wrench, container for old fluid
  • Locate the brake bleeder valve on each wheel caliper.
  • Start with the wheel furthest from the master cylinder (usually the passenger side rear).
  • Attach the bleeder kit to the valve, open it slightly, and have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times until no air bubbles are present in the fluid coming out.
  • Close the bleeder valve and repeat for the other wheels in the following order: driver side rear, passenger side front, and driver side front.
  • Ensure the brake fluid reservoir remains topped off during this process.
4. Inspect and Replace Components
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench
  • If bleeding does not resolve the issue, inspect the master cylinder for leaks and proper operation.
  • If faulty, remove the master cylinder from the brake booster and replace it with a new unit, ensuring to torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
5. Test Drive and Final Checks
  • Tools Required: None
  • After completing repairs, take the vehicle for a test drive to ensure the brakes feel firm and responsive.
  • Recheck brake fluid level after the test drive and top off if necessary.
