Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, tire pressure gauge, jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, TPMS reset tool (if applicable).
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is turned off before beginning work.
2. Replace TPMS Sensors (if necessary)
  1. Lift the Vehicle:
    • Use a jack to lift the vehicle securely and place jack stands underneath for safety.
  2. Remove Wheel:
    • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel where the TPMS sensor is suspected to be faulty.
  3. Remove the Old Sensor:
    • Unscrew the valve stem nut and gently pull the TPMS sensor out of the tire.
  4. Install New Sensor:
    • Insert the new TPMS sensor through the valve stem hole, securing it with the nut. Ensure it is properly seated.
  5. Reinstall Wheel:
    • Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts. Use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer specification (typically 76 ft-lbs for RAV4).
  6. Repeat for Other Wheels: If multiple sensors are faulty, repeat the above steps for each affected tire.
3. Reset the TPMS System
  1. Turn on Ignition: Without starting the engine, turn the ignition key to the "ON" position.
  2. Press TPMS Reset Button: Locate the TPMS reset button (often under the steering wheel) and press it until the TPMS light blinks three times, indicating the reset is successful.
  3. Drive the Vehicle: Drive the vehicle for at least 10 minutes at speeds above 15 mph to allow the system to recalibrate.
