Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles for protection.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a hydraulic jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels using a socket set.
3. Remove the Old Tie Rods
  • Tools Required: Socket set, tie rod end puller (optional).
  • Locate the outer tie rod end and remove the retaining nut with a socket.
  • If necessary, use a tie rod end puller to detach the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  • Unscrew the inner tie rod from the rack and pinion assembly by turning it counterclockwise.
4. Install New Tie Rods
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench.
  • Thread the new inner tie rod into the rack and pinion assembly and tighten to manufacturer's specifications (usually around 35-40 ft-lbs).
  • Attach the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle and secure it with the retaining nut (tighten to manufacturer’s specifications, typically around 35-40 ft-lbs).
5. Alignment and Reinstallation
  • Reinstall the front wheels and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Perform a wheel alignment to ensure proper angles and settings.
  • Test drive the vehicle to confirm the repair was effective.
