Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather Tools and Materials:
    • Oil filter wrench
    • Socket set (10mm socket recommended)
    • Oil catch pan
    • Funnel
    • New oil filter
    • Engine oil (5W-20 or as specified in the owner’s manual)
    • Clean rags or paper towels
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Sub-steps:
    • Use a floor jack to lift the front of the vehicle.
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands to ensure stability.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.
3. Drain the Old Oil
  • Sub-steps:
    • Locate the oil drain plug under the vehicle; it is typically on the oil pan's bottom.
    • Use a socket wrench to remove the drain plug; allow old oil to completely drain into the oil catch pan.
    • Once drained, replace and tighten the drain plug to the manufacturer’s torque specification (typically around 30 ft-lbs).
4. Replace the Oil Filter
  • Sub-steps:
    • Using an oil filter wrench, remove the old oil filter. Be cautious of residual oil.
    • Apply a thin layer of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
    • Install the new oil filter by hand, tightening it until snug (do not over-tighten).
5. Add New Oil
  • Sub-steps:
    • Open the hood and locate the oil filler cap on top of the engine.
    • Using a funnel, pour the new engine oil into the oil filler neck.
    • Replace the oil filler cap.
6. Check Oil Level
  • Sub-steps:
    • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.
    • Turn off the engine and wait a minute, then recheck the oil level using the dipstick.
    • Add more oil if necessary to reach the proper level.
