Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the replacement.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels while the vehicle is still on the ground.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and support it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels to gain access to the tie rod ends.
3. Remove the Old Tie Rod Ends
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrenches, tie rod end puller (or hammer).
  • Locate the tie rod end connected to the steering knuckle.
  • Remove the cotter pin (if applicable) using needle-nose pliers.
  • Use a socket or wrench to remove the tie rod end nut.
  • If the tie rod end does not easily separate from the steering knuckle, use a tie rod end puller or carefully tap the side of the knuckle with a hammer to loosen it.
4. Install New Tie Rod Ends
  • Apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new tie rod end.
  • Insert the new tie rod end into the steering knuckle.
  • Hand-tighten the nut onto the new tie rod end and then torque it to the manufacturer's specifications (generally around 50-60 ft-lbs).
  • Replace the cotter pin to secure the nut.
5. Adjust Alignment (if necessary)
  • After replacing both tie rod ends, it is important to have the wheel alignment checked and adjusted by a professional to prevent uneven tire wear.
