Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety while working on the ignition system.
  • Allow the engine to cool before proceeding.
2. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Tools Required: Socket set, ratchet, extension.
  • Locate the ignition coils on top of the engine.
  • Remove the screws or bolts securing each ignition coil using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully pull the ignition coils straight out from their mounting position.
3. Remove Spark Plugs
  • Tools Required: Spark plug socket, torque wrench, extension.
  • Using a spark plug socket, carefully unscrew each spark plug from the cylinder head.
  • Inspect each spark plug for any signs of wear such as carbon buildup, oil fouling, or excessive wear.
4. Inspect and Clean
  • Measure the gap on each spark plug using a feeler gauge. The gap should be between 0.043 to 0.047 inches (1.1 to 1.3 mm) as per manufacturer specifications.
  • Clean the spark plug threads with a wire brush if necessary, but do not attempt to clean worn spark plugs.
  • If any spark plug is damaged or excessively worn, replace it with a new one.
5. Reinstall Spark Plugs and Ignition Coils
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench.
  • Install the new or cleaned spark plugs back into the cylinder head and tighten to a torque specification of 13 lb-ft (18 Nm).
  • Reinstall the ignition coils and secure them with their screws or bolts.
6. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and observe for any misfire symptoms.
  • Test drive the vehicle to ensure it runs smoothly and the check engine light is no longer illuminated.
