Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety.
2. Fluid Check and Replacement
  • Tools Required: Fluid extraction tool, funnel
  • Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap and check the fluid level.
  • If low, extract old fluid using a fluid extraction tool.
  • Refill with the recommended power steering fluid as per the owner’s manual.
  • Replace the reservoir cap securely.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, fluid catch pan
  • Locate the power steering pump and inspect for leaks or damage.
  • Remove the serpentine belt by releasing tension from the tensioner pulley.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump, using a catch pan to collect any fluid.
  • Unbolt the power steering pump from its mount and remove it.
  • Install the new power steering pump and torque bolts to specifications.
  • Reconnect the power steering lines and install the serpentine belt.
4. Inspect and Repair Steering Rack
  • Tools Required: Socket set, jack, jack stands
  • Lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Inspect the steering rack for any leaks or damage.
  • If damaged, remove the steering rack by disconnecting it from the tie rods and subframe.
  • Replace with a new steering rack and reassemble components.
5. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed the system of any air.
  • Recheck fluid levels and top off if necessary.
