Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: multimeter, battery terminal cleaner, jump starter or jumper cables, socket set.
  • Ensure the vehicle is in park and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Test and Replace Key Fob Battery
  • Use a small screwdriver to open the key fob casing.
  • Remove the old battery and note the battery specifications (typically CR2032).
  • Install a new battery, ensuring correct polarity, and reassemble the fob.
3. Jump-Start the Vehicle
  • Connect the positive (red) jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
  • Connect the other end of the positive cable to the positive terminal of the good battery or jump starter.
  • Connect the negative (black) jumper cable to the negative terminal of the good battery.
  • Connect the other end of the negative cable to an unpainted metal surface on the dead vehicle (ground).
  • Start the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.
4. Inspect the Battery and Terminals
  • Disconnect the jumper cables in reverse order (negative first).
  • Remove any corrosion from battery terminals using a terminal cleaner or a mixture of baking soda and water.
  • Tighten terminal connections securely.
5. Battery Replacement (if necessary)
  • If the battery voltage is low (below 12.4V after jump-starting), replace the battery.
  • Disconnect the battery terminals, starting with the negative terminal.
  • Replace the battery with a new one (typically a group size 24F for Highlander).
  • Reconnect the terminals, positive first, and ensure they are tight.
