Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface, and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during repairs.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before working underneath.
3. Remove Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, pry bar
  • Unbolt the U-joint from the driveshaft using the socket set.
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft out of the U-joint connection. If needed, use a pry bar to gently assist in removal.
4. Replace U-joint
  • Tools Required: U-joint removal tool or hammer, vise
  • Secure the old U-joint in a vise and use the removal tool to press it out. If a tool is not available, a hammer can be used carefully to tap it out.
  • Insert the new U-joint into the driveshaft yoke, ensuring proper alignment.
  • Use the U-joint tool to press the new U-joint into place, ensuring it is seated correctly.
5. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • Reinsert the driveshaft into the U-joint connection.
  • Bolt the driveshaft back into place, using a torque wrench to tighten bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 30-40 ft-lbs, but verify in the service manual).
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reconnect the battery.
