Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, ratchet, extension bar, gap gauge, anti-seize lubricant, dielectric grease.
  • Ensure the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove Engine Covers
  • If applicable, remove any plastic engine covers by unscrewing the bolts or clips securing them.
  • Set aside the covers in a safe location.
3. Access Spark Plugs
  • Locate the ignition coil assemblies on top of the engine.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil by pressing the tab and pulling them off.
  • Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully pull out the ignition coils to expose the spark plugs.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Using a spark plug socket and ratchet, carefully unscrew each spark plug from its cylinder head.
  • Avoid dropping any debris into the cylinder when removing the spark plugs.
5. Prepare New Spark Plugs
  • Use a gap gauge to ensure the new spark plugs are gapped correctly according to the specifications in the owner's manual (typically around 0.043 inches).
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs to facilitate future removal.
6. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Carefully thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading.
  • Use the torque wrench to tighten the spark plugs to the manufacturer-recommended torque (typically around 13 lb-ft).
  • Reinstall the ignition coils by reversing the removal process, ensuring they are seated properly.
7. Reconnect Components
  • Reattach the electrical connectors to each ignition coil.
  • Replace any engine covers that were removed earlier and secure them with their respective bolts or clips.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
