Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, oil filter wrench, oil catch pan, funnel, rags, new oil, new oil filter, and gloves.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the engine is cool enough to touch before starting the oil change to avoid burns.
2. Drain Old Oil
  1. Place the oil catch pan under the oil drain plug located at the bottom of the oil pan.
  2. Use the socket wrench to carefully loosen and remove the oil drain plug. Allow the oil to fully drain into the pan.
  3. Once the oil has drained, re-install the drain plug and tighten it securely (typically 30-40 ft-lbs torque).
3. Replace Oil Filter
  1. Locate the oil filter, which is typically accessible from the top or side of the engine.
  2. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the old oil filter. Ensure the rubber O-ring comes off with it.
  3. Before installing the new oil filter, apply a thin layer of new oil to the rubber O-ring on the new filter.
  4. Install the new oil filter by hand until it's snug. Avoid overtightening.
4. Add New Oil
  1. Open the hood and remove the oil filler cap on top of the engine.
  2. Using a funnel, pour the recommended amount of new oil (typically 4.5 to 5 quarts for the Camry) into the engine.
  3. Replace the oil filler cap securely after adding the oil.
5. Check Oil Level
  1. Start the engine and let it run for a minute to circulate the new oil.
  2. Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes.
  3. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and then check the oil level. Add more oil if necessary.
