Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug gap tool, multimeter, OBD-II scanner.
  • Allow the engine to cool completely before starting work.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Remove Ignition Coils
  1. Locate the ignition coils on top of the engine.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil.
  3. Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using the appropriate socket.
  4. Gently pull out the ignition coils from the spark plug wells.
3. Remove Spark Plugs
  1. Use a spark plug socket to carefully unscrew and remove the spark plugs from the engine.
  2. Inspect each spark plug for damage or excessive wear.
  3. Clean the spark plug wells with compressed air to remove any debris before installing new plugs.
4. Install New Spark Plugs
  1. Check the gap on the new spark plugs using a spark plug gap tool and adjust as necessary to meet specifications (typically around 0.043 inches for most Toyota engines).
  2. Hand-thread the new spark plugs into the engine to prevent cross-threading.
  3. Use a torque wrench to tighten the spark plugs to the manufacturer's specified torque (generally around 13 lb-ft).
  4. Reinstall the ignition coils in the reverse order of removal and reconnect the electrical connectors.
5. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal securely.
