Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
  • Allow time for the vehicle to cool if it has been recently operated.
2. Inspect and Replace Speed Sensor
  1. Locate the Speed Sensor

    • Find the speed sensor, usually located on the transmission.
    • Refer to the service manual for the exact location based on the model year.
  2. Remove the Speed Sensor

    • Disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor.
    • Remove the mounting bolts using a socket set.
    • Carefully pull the sensor out of its housing.
  3. Install New Speed Sensor

    • Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the new sensor for a better seal.
    • Insert the new sensor into the housing and secure it with mounting bolts.
    • Reconnect the wiring harness ensuring it clicks into place.
3. Check Instrument Cluster
  1. Remove Instrument Cluster

    • Remove the dashboard panel surrounding the cluster using a trim removal tool.
    • Unscrew the instrument cluster screws and gently pull the cluster out.
  2. Inspect Connections

    • Check for any loose or corroded connections at the back of the cluster.
    • Clean any contacts if necessary.
  3. Reinstall Cluster

    • Reinsert the cluster into the dashboard and secure it with screws.
    • Reattach the dashboard panel.
4. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the vehicle and check if the speedometer is now functioning correctly.
