Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
  • Use wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Tools Required: Lug wrench, jack, jack stands
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Use the jack to lift the vehicle and securely place jack stands under the vehicle.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench
  • Locate the caliper mounting bolts on the back of the caliper.
  • Use the socket set to remove the caliper mounting bolts.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor. Support it using a bungee cord or rope to avoid stressing the brake line.
4. Replace the Brake Pads
  • Tools Required: Brake pad spreader or C-clamp
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Compare the old pads with the new ones to ensure correct size.
  • Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket. Ensure they are seated properly.
  • Use the brake pad spreader or C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing.
5. Reinstall the Brake Caliper
  • Place the caliper back over the new brake pads and rotor.
  • Reinstall and tighten the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 80 ft-lbs for Toyota Camry, but confirm with service manual).
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub.
  • Hand-tighten the lug nuts before lowering the vehicle.
  • Lower the vehicle and then fully tighten the lug nuts in a criss-cross pattern to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 76 ft-lbs).
7. Final Checks
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure proper seating of the brake pads.
  • Check brake fluid level and top off if necessary.
