Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Wrench set
    • Oil catch pan
    • UV dye and UV light (if necessary)
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Disconnect the battery before working on electrical components.
    • Allow the engine to cool down before beginning work.
2. Identify and Replace Gaskets/Seals
  • Valve Cover Gasket:

    1. Remove any engine covers obstructing access to the valve cover.
    2. Disconnect any electrical connectors and hoses attached to the valve cover.
    3. Unbolt the valve cover using the appropriate socket.
    4. Remove the old gasket and clean the mating surfaces thoroughly.
    5. Place a new valve cover gasket in the correct position and reassemble the valve cover, torquing bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 7-9 ft-lbs).
  • Oil Pan Gasket:

    1. Raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
    2. Place an oil catch pan under the oil pan and drain the oil.
    3. Remove the bolts securing the oil pan and carefully pry it off.
    4. Clean the oil pan and engine block surfaces.
    5. Install a new oil pan gasket and reattach the oil pan, torquing bolts to the specified value (usually around 10-15 ft-lbs).
  • Replace Oil Filter:

    1. Locate the oil filter and use an oil filter wrench to remove it.
    2. Apply a thin layer of new oil on the rubber O-ring of the new filter.
    3. Install the new filter by hand until snug, then tighten an additional 3/4 turn.
  • Front and Rear Crankshaft Seals:

    1. For front seal: Remove the timing cover and crankshaft pulley. Replace the seal and reassemble.
    2. For rear seal: This often requires removing the transmission. Replace the seal and reassemble the transmission.
