Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, oil filter wrench, funnel, oil catch pan, rags, oil dipstick.
  • Gather necessary supplies: new engine oil (recommended type), new oil filter, and a replacement crush washer if necessary.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down before proceeding.
2. Drain Old Oil
  • Locate the oil drain plug under the vehicle. Remove the drain plug using the appropriate socket.
  • Position the oil catch pan under the drain plug to collect the old oil.
  • Allow the oil to drain completely for several minutes. Replace the drain plug with a new crush washer if specified, tightening to the manufacturer’s torque specifications (typically 29-43 ft-lbs).
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter. Make sure the oil catch pan is still in place to catch any residual oil.
  • Before installing the new filter, apply a thin layer of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter to ensure a good seal.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand, tightening it until it is snug (do not over-tighten).
4. Add New Oil
  • Open the hood and remove the oil filler cap located on top of the engine.
  • Using a funnel, pour the new engine oil into the engine. Refer to the owner’s manual for the correct oil capacity (typically around 4.5-5.5 quarts).
  • Replace the oil filler cap securely.
5. Check Oil Level
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.
  • Turn off the engine and wait a minute, then check the oil level using the dipstick. Add oil if necessary to bring it to the proper level.
