Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, ball joint separator, grease gun, OBD-II scanner.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during the procedure.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels using a socket set.
3. Remove the Old Ball Joint
  • 3.1. Disconnect the Suspension Components:

    • Remove the lower control arm bolts that connect to the ball joint using the socket set.
    • Use a ball joint separator to detach the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
  • 3.2. Remove the Ball Joint:

    • If the ball joint is pressed into the control arm, use a ball joint press to remove it. If it is bolted, simply unbolt it.
4. Install the New Ball Joint
  • 4.1. Prepare the New Ball Joint:

    • Apply grease to the new ball joint as per manufacturer specifications.
  • 4.2. Install the New Ball Joint:

    • Using the ball joint press, install the new ball joint into the control arm or bolt it in place if applicable.
    • Reattach the lower control arm to the ball joint and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (consult the service manual for exact torque values).
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the front wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and finish tightening the lug nuts to the specified torque.
  • Reconnect the battery.
