Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Pliers
    • Fluid catch basin
    • Replacement steering fluid (if applicable)
    • Clean rags
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Allow the vehicle to cool before working on the steering system.
    • Disconnect the battery to avoid any electrical hazards.
2. Remove the Steering Rack
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels for easier access to the steering components.
  • Disconnect the battery cables.
  • Remove any plastic covers or braces obstructing access to the steering rack.
  • Detach the tie rod ends from the steering rack using pliers and socket set.
  • Disconnect any power steering lines (if applicable) and cap them to prevent fluid loss.
  • Unbolt the steering rack from the subframe and carefully remove it from the vehicle.
3. Inspect and Replace Seals or Rack
  • Inspect the steering rack for damage and identify the source of the leak.
  • If the seals are worn, replace them with new seals compatible with the steering rack model.
  • If the rack itself is damaged, consider replacing it with a new or remanufactured unit.
  • Ensure all components are cleaned and free of debris before reassembly.
4. Reinstall the Steering Rack
  • Position the new or repaired steering rack into place and secure it with bolts, following the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
  • Reattach the power steering lines and ensure they are secure and free of leaks.
  • Reconnect the tie rod ends to the steering rack.
  • Replace any plastic covers or braces removed during disassembly.
5. Refill and Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate fluid.
  • Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed air from the system.
  • Check the fluid level again and top off as necessary.
6. Final Assembly
  • Reinstall the front wheels and lower the vehicle.
  • Reconnect the battery cables.
  • Start the vehicle and check for any leaks around the steering rack.
