Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the replacement.
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Spring compressor (if replacing strut assemblies)
    • Screwdrivers
    • Pliers
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly on the wheel corresponding to the shock absorber being replaced.
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands. Ensure the vehicle is stable.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Fully remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the shock absorber.
4. Disconnect the Shock Absorber
  • Locate the upper mounting bolts of the shock absorber inside the trunk or under the rear seat (for rear shocks) or under the hood (for front shocks).
  • Remove the upper bolts using the appropriate socket.
  • At the bottom of the shock, remove the nuts or bolts securing it to the lower control arm.
5. Install New Shock Absorber
  • Position the new shock absorber in place, aligning it with the mounting points.
  • First, secure the bottom of the shock absorber, then attach the upper mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque settings.
6. Reassemble the Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands using the jack.
  • Once the vehicle is on the ground, torque the lug nuts to manufacturer specifications.
7. Repeat for Other Shocks
  • If needed, repeat steps 2-6 for any other worn shock absorbers.
8. Final Check
  • Ensure all tools are removed from the vehicle and that all components are secure.
