Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, brake cleaner, caliper gauge, socket set, torque wrench.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery (negative terminal) to ensure safety during the repair.
2. Raise Vehicle and Remove Wheels
  • Use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the front or rear wheels.
  • Jack up the vehicle using the jack and securely place it on jack stands.
  • Completely remove the lug nuts and take off the wheels.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Remove the caliper bolts using the socket set and carefully lift the caliper off the brake rotor.
  • Hang the caliper using a wire or bungee cord to avoid stress on the brake line.
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Measure the thickness of the brake pads; if they are worn down to the minimum thickness (usually 3mm or less), replace them with new ones.
  • Apply brake grease to the back of the new brake pads and install them in the caliper bracket.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors (if necessary)
  • Check the brake rotor surface for any grooves or signs of wear. If damaged, remove the rotor by unscrewing the rotor retaining screws (if applicable).
  • Install new rotors by aligning them with the hub and securing with screws.
  • If the rotors are within specification but still causing noise, consider resurfacing them.
5. Reassemble and Reinstall Components
  • Reposition the caliper over the new brake pads and secure it with the caliper bolts. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specification (usually around 25-30 Nm).
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
6. Lower Vehicle and Final Checks
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specification (typically around 90-110 Nm).
  • Reconnect the battery and pump the brake pedal a few times to seat the brake pads properly.
