Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety.
2. Remove the Old Master Cylinder
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, brake line wrench.
  • Use a wrench to remove the brake lines connected to the master cylinder, being cautious of any residual brake fluid.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the master cylinder to the brake booster.
  • Carefully lift the master cylinder out of its mounting position.
3. Install the New Master Cylinder
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench, new brake fluid.
  • Position the new master cylinder onto the brake booster.
  • Secure it in place with the mounting bolts. Use a torque wrench to tighten bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 20-25 Nm).
  • Reconnect the brake lines to the new master cylinder, ensuring a snug fit to prevent leaks.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit or clear tubing, container for old fluid.
  • Fill the brake fluid reservoir with fresh brake fluid.
  • Begin bleeding the brake lines starting from the furthest brake from the master cylinder, usually the passenger rear.
  • Have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times, then hold it down while you open the bleeder valve to release air and old fluid. Close the valve before the pedal is released. Repeat until no air bubbles appear.
  • Move to the next brake line and repeat the process, working towards the driver's side front brake.
5. Final Inspection and Cleanup
  • Check for any leaks around the master cylinder and the brake lines.
  • Refill the brake fluid reservoir to the proper level.
  • Reconnect the negative battery cable.
