Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, gloves, safety glasses.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the ignition is off.
  • Wear safety gloves and glasses for protection.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the affected wheel.
  • Jack up the vehicle and securely place it on jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Remove Brake Components
  • Brake Pads Replacement:

    • Use a socket set to remove the caliper mounting bolts.
    • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor and support it without stressing the brake line.
    • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Brake Rotor Replacement (if needed):

    • Remove the caliper bracket if rotors are being replaced.
    • Remove the rotor by unscrewing any retaining screws, if present, and sliding it off the hub.
4. Inspect and Clean
  • Inspect the brake rotor and pads for wear. If the pads are less than 3mm thick or the rotor is damaged, replacement is necessary.
  • Clean the caliper, caliper bracket, and rotor mounting surface with brake cleaner to remove dust and debris.
5. Install New Components
  • New Brake Pads:

    • Place new brake pads into the caliper bracket. Ensure they’re seated properly.
  • New Brake Rotor: (if applicable)

    • Slide the new rotor onto the hub, securing it with any retaining screws if applicable.
  • Reattach the caliper over the new pads and rotor.

  • Torque the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 25-30 Nm, but check the service manual for precise values).

6. Reassemble Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub.
  • Hand-tighten the lug nuts and lower the vehicle.
  • Tighten lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically 90-110 Nm).
7. Brake Fluid Check
  • If brake pads were replaced, check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. Top up if necessary with the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 4 recommended).
