Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
2. Clean and Inspect
  • Use an appropriate engine cleaner to remove oil residue.
  • Inspect all components in the front engine area, including gaskets and seals.
3. Replace Oil Filter (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Oil filter wrench
  • Remove the old oil filter using the oil filter wrench.
  • Apply a thin layer of oil to the rubber O-ring on the new filter.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand until snug, then tighten an additional 3/4 turn.
4. Replace Front Crankshaft Seal
  • Tools Required: Socket set, seal puller, torque wrench
  • Drain the engine oil using an oil drain pan.
  • Remove the harmonic balancer using a puller tool.
  • Use a seal puller to carefully remove the old front crankshaft seal.
  • Install the new seal using a seal installer or a similar tool to avoid damaging it.
  • Reinstall the harmonic balancer, torque to manufacturer specifications (typically around 130 ft-lbs).
  • Refill engine oil to the correct level.
5. Replace Oil Pan Gasket (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, gasket scraper, torque wrench
  • Drain the engine oil and remove the oil pan from the engine.
  • Scrape off the old gasket material from both the oil pan and engine block.
  • Clean the surfaces thoroughly to ensure a good seal.
  • Apply a new gasket and reinstall the oil pan, tightening bolts to manufacturer specifications (usually around 10-15 ft-lbs).
