Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, timing belt tool kit, flathead screwdriver, ratchet, jack and jack stands, engine support bar.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove Components
  • 2.1 Jack up the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • 2.2 Remove the engine cover by unscrewing bolts or clips as necessary.
  • 2.3 Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner pulley.
  • 2.4 Take off the timing belt cover by unscrewing the bolts securing it.
3. Align Engine Timing
  • 3.1 Rotate the crankshaft using a wrench until the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft align with the marks on the engine.
  • 3.2 Insert a locking pin or tool in the camshaft to hold it in place.
4. Remove the Old Timing Belt
  • 4.1 Loosen the tensioner bolt and remove the tensioner.
  • 4.2 Carefully slide off the old timing belt from the camshaft and crankshaft gears.
5. Install New Timing Belt
  • 5.1 Place the new timing belt onto the crankshaft and camshaft gears, ensuring it is aligned with the timing marks.
  • 5.2 Reinstall the tensioner and tighten it according to manufacturer specifications (usually around 14 ft-lbs).
  • 5.3 Double-check the alignment of the timing marks after the belt is installed.
6. Reassemble Components
  • 6.1 Reinstall the timing belt cover and secure it with bolts.
  • 6.2 Reinstall the serpentine belt, ensuring it is properly seated on all pulleys.
  • 6.3 Reattach the engine cover.
  • 6.4 Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
