Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Pry bar
    • U-joint removal tool
    • Grease gun
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface. Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Remove the Driveshaft
  • Using a socket set, remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the rear differential and the transmission.
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft out from the U-joint area.
  • Note the orientation of the driveshaft for reinstallation.
4. Remove the U-joint
  • Use a U-joint removal tool to press out the old U-joint from the driveshaft.
  • Clean the area where the U-joint was seated to remove any debris or rust.
5. Install the New U-joint
  • Apply a small amount of grease to the new U-joint before installation.
  • Press the new U-joint into the driveshaft using the U-joint tool, ensuring it is seated evenly.
  • Reinstall any retaining clips that may be present.
6. Reinstall the Driveshaft
  • Align the driveshaft with the previously noted orientation and slide it back into place.
  • Secure the driveshaft by tightening the bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque setting (usually around 30-40 ft-lbs, but verify with a service manual).
7. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reconnect the battery once everything is securely in place.
