Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, O2 sensor socket, exhaust pipe cutter, penetrating oil, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and place jack stands under the frame to secure it.
  • Confirm stability before proceeding with the replacement.
3. Remove the Exhaust Components
  • Sub-steps:
    1. If applicable, remove the heat shield covering the catalytic converter.
    2. Use penetrating oil on bolts to loosen them easily; allow it to sit for a few minutes.
    3. Disconnect the O2 sensor from the catalytic converter using the O2 sensor socket.
    4. Loosen and remove the bolts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe.
    5. Carefully detach the catalytic converter from the exhaust system, ensuring no other components are damaged.
4. Install the New Catalytic Converter
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Position the new catalytic converter in place.
    2. Reattach and tighten the bolts to secure it to the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe (use a torque wrench to tighten to manufacturer specifications).
    3. Reconnect the O2 sensor ensuring it is properly seated.
    4. If applicable, reinstall the heat shield.
5. Lower the Vehicle and Reconnect Battery
  • Carefully remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle using the jack.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
