Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, ball joint separator, and safety goggles.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is securely lifted and supported before working underneath it.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Disconnect Ball Joint
  • Locate the ball joint connecting the control arm to the steering knuckle.
  • Use a ball joint separator tool to disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Follow the tool's instructions for proper use.
4. Remove Old Ball Joint
  • If the ball joint is pressed into the control arm, remove the retaining clips or bolts.
  • Use a ball joint press or hammer to carefully remove the old ball joint from its location.
5. Install New Ball Joint
  • Insert the new ball joint into the control arm using a ball joint press if necessary.
  • Secure it with new retaining clips or bolts, ensuring they are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications (refer to the service manual for torque values).
6. Reconnect Ball Joint
  • Reattach the ball joint to the steering knuckle and tighten the fasteners to the specified torque values.
7. Reinstall Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
