Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Oil filter wrench
    • Socket set
    • Oil drain pan
    • Funnel
    • Torque wrench
    • Rags or paper towels
  • Parts Required:
    • New engine oil (5W-20 or as specified in the owner’s manual)
    • New oil filter
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and ensure the engine is cool.
  • Gather all tools and parts before starting.
2. Drain Old Oil
  • Place the oil drain pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the engine oil fill cap to allow oil to drain more freely.
  • Using a socket wrench, remove the oil drain bolt (ensure it is not hot).
  • Allow the old oil to completely drain into the pan.
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand, turning until snug (do not over-tighten).
4. Add New Oil
  • Reinstall the oil drain bolt and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 30 ft-lbs).
  • Use a funnel to pour the new engine oil into the engine through the oil fill cap.
  • Start with approximately 4.5 quarts of oil and check the dipstick to ensure proper level.
5. Check for Leaks and Final Steps
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, checking for leaks around the oil filter and drain plug.
  • Turn off the engine and wait a minute, then recheck the oil level with the dipstick.
  • Add more oil if necessary to reach the correct level.
