Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
  • Allow the vehicle to cool down if it has been running.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; top off with the recommended fluid type if low (Honda PSF or equivalent).
  • Inspect the fluid for contaminants; if dirty, proceed to replace the fluid.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Disconnect the power steering pump electrical connector.
  • Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump using a socket set.
  • Unbolt the pump from its mount and disconnect the hoses (be prepared for fluid spillage).
  • Install the new power steering pump, ensuring all connections are secure.
  • Reattach the drive belt and reconnect the electrical connector.
4. Check Steering Rack and Pinion
  • Lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Inspect the steering rack for any visible leaks or damage.
  • If leaks are present, remove the steering rack by unbolting it from the subframe and disconnecting the inner tie rod ends.
  • Replace with a new steering rack if damaged.
5. Reassemble and Bleed the System
  • Reconnect any disconnected lines and hoses.
  • Fill the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed the system of air bubbles.
  • Check for any leaks after bleeding.
