Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles for protection.
2. Identify and Repair the Leak

2.1 Brake Line or Hose Replacement

  • If a damaged brake line or hose is found:
    • Use a wrench to disconnect the brake line or hose from the fitting.
    • Remove the damaged line/hose from its mounting points.
    • Replace with a new brake line or hose, ensuring proper routing and securing.
    • Reconnect and tighten fittings to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.

2.2 Brake Caliper or Wheel Cylinder Replacement

  • If a leaky brake caliper is identified:

    • Remove the wheel to access the brake caliper.
    • Disconnect brake line fitting from the caliper.
    • Remove caliper mounting bolts and take off the caliper.
    • Replace with a new caliper, ensuring proper alignment and secure mounting.
  • If a wheel cylinder leak is found:

    • Remove the drum brake assembly to access the wheel cylinder.
    • Disconnect the brake line and remove mounting bolts.
    • Install a new wheel cylinder and reconnect the brake line.
3. Master Cylinder Replacement
  • If the master cylinder is leaking:
    • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
    • Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap and drain the fluid.
    • Detach brake lines from the master cylinder using a wrench.
    • Unbolt the master cylinder from the brake booster.
    • Install the new master cylinder and reconnect all lines, ensuring they are tight.
4. Refill and Bleed the Brake System
  • Refill the brake fluid reservoir with the recommended brake fluid type (DOT 3 or DOT 4).
  • Bleed the brake system starting from the wheel farthest from the master cylinder to the closest (typically RHR, LHR, RFR, LFR).
  • Ensure there are no air bubbles in the brake lines.
