Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, extension bar, dielectric grease, compressed air (optional)
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
  • Allow the engine to cool completely before beginning the work.
2. Accessing the Spark Plugs
  • Remove any engine cover that might obstruct access to the spark plugs using a socket set.
  • Disconnect the ignition coil connectors by pressing the release tab and pulling them straight out.
3. Removing the Old Spark Plugs
  • Use the spark plug socket and an extension bar to carefully unscrew the old spark plugs from the cylinder head. Rotate counterclockwise to loosen.
  • If the spark plugs are stubborn, use a penetrating lubricant and allow it to sit for a few minutes before attempting removal again.
4. Inspecting and Installing New Spark Plugs
  • Inspect the threads and condition of the spark plug holes; clean any debris using compressed air.
  • Check the gap on the new spark plugs using a feeler gauge and adjust if necessary according to manufacturer specifications (usually around 0.043 inches for Honda).
  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the threads of the new spark plugs to help with installation and prevent seizing.
  • Install the new spark plugs by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten them to the manufacturer's torque specification (typically around 13 lb-ft).
5. Reassembly
  • Reconnect the ignition coils ensuring they click into place.
  • Replace the engine cover if removed and tighten any screws or bolts securely.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
